Landscape artist. Born in New Zealand and raised in Sydney, Gruner exhibited regularly from 1901. He won the Wynne Prize seven times between 1916 and 1937. W. B. Young was born in Yorkshire and studied for his M.A. at Cambridge. He arrived in Australia in 1885 and gained prominence in Melbourne as a painter and poster designer. From 1929 to 1934 Young wrote for the Melbourne Herald as its art critic. He was also a writer and poet of some note, and his published works include Goya's Proverbs and The Children's Bread.
